River Nith Here I Come

Just a quick post. Tackle sorted and ready to be packed into the car for the first trip of the season up to the River Nith. Salmon season opened yesterday 25th so it's time to try my luck for one of those elusive springers.
River is running high at the moment but looks as though it should drop off a little tonight & tomorrow, bad news is there seems to be a lot of rain due Friday night.

Saturday is about chasing the grayling in a small competition that Friars Carse Hotel has organised, hopefully we can manage to land a couple.

Will keep you updated as to how things go

Time To Get Back To It

Been a while since my last post due to serious lack of fishing activity, this weather were having has made the rivers un-fishable for most of the time, the odd days when it's been better other things have cropped up.

At last just over a week ago I managed to get out to local fishery and wet the line. Given the conditions were not really that good I was very surprised by the outcome of a session that lasted just about 3 hours.

Conditions were overcast with fine rain and blustery wind coming down the valley so it was wrap up warm time. The owner had recently been clearing some of the bulrushes out from the side so I thought that it may be worth a try in this area to see if the trout were finding food that had been stirred up, and this was just the place to be. I set up with a Cats Whisker on the point and a Black Spider on the dropper, second cast produced a good strong pull and it wasn't long before a nice fat rainbow of about 3lb was sliding into the net. first blood was to the cat.

A short while after another fish took the fly only for me to lose it at the net as the hook pulled out. Given the conditions it was  good to see that a few fish very showing in various areas of the lake.

I managed 9 fish to the net and lost a good few others in the time I was there which given the conditions was great, it just shows that on days when you think are not the best it's always worth a try you just never know.

All the fish were hard fighting and in good condition and, the Cat seemed to take most of the fish but the best of the bunch fell to the black spider a nice 7.5lb fish

Out catching up on some double handed practice this week & hoping that the weather starts to settle down and the rivers drop as I'm off to the River Nith at the end of the month for the start of the salmon season as well as taking part in grayling competition that Friars Carse Hotel are running.

Tight lines for now and if you manage to get out make sure you wrap up warm.
