Busy Week Practising
Busy week practicing with the double handed rod, started on Sunday at Platt Fields in Fallowfield. Working hard to get the left arm uppermost to understand what it needs to be doing. Plenty of roll casts and jump rolls. A good 2 hours practice so not bad for a Sunday morning after a night out the night before.
Wednesday, Poynton Pool in Cheshire just down the road from where I live. It's a coarse fishery but it gives me somewhere to practice. Managed to get set up before the sleet & snow came in great, not to be deterred I carried on for about 3 hours working on rolls, jump rolls single and double speys as well as do presentation cast to tighten the loops up. Good session taking into account of the weather.
Thursday, back at Poynton Pool, re-capping on Wednesdays casts and trying to improve the left hand uppermost situation, it will come just needs more practice. A good couple of hours.
Friday (today) spent the day on the River Ribble in Lancashire observing my mentor giving a double handed lesson to one of his clients, picked up some very useful tips that should help me along the way.

Managed to get a few hours fishing in this afternoon at my local club reservoir first time up there this year. Moorland location so there were still drifts and small pockets of snow on the ground. Bright conditions with an air temp of 5 degrees when I arrived. Fished all the way down to the feeder stream without any luck. Still it's not all about catching fish sometimes it's just about the peace & quite and the beauty of the place. Temperature dropped sharply as the sun went over the hill down to 2 degrees, time to go.

This is the first blog from Cheshire Fly Fishing. As you can imagine with the way the weather has been there has been little chance to get out there and fish, hopefully that will start to change in the near future. In the meantime it's practise time hopefully to be ready to take Double Handed assessment in May. Check out Facebook page Cheshire Fly Fish or web site www.cheshireflyfishing.co.uk.
